SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM
PROTECTING SOCIAL SECURITY WITHOUT PLAYING GAMES
Social Security matters because people worked for it. For many families, it is not extra money. It is rent, groceries, medicine, and stability. The country needs a serious plan that people can understand.
THE BASIC FACTS
The issue is not complicated. Social Security is under financial pressure, and waiting makes the choices harder. That doesn't mean Social Security disappears overnight. It means the country needs to act before the problem gets worse.
The Social Security Old-Age & Survivors Insurance trust fund is projected to be able to pay full scheduled benefits until 2033
2033
In 2026, Social Security tax applies only to the first $184,500 of covered earnings.
$184,500
67
Full retirement age is 67 for people born in 1960 or later.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Social Security is mostly funded by payroll taxes. Workers & employers each pay into the system. In 2026, the Social Security tax rate is 6.2% for workers and 6.2% for employers, up to the yearly income limit.
Medicare is different. There is no maximum earning limit for Medicare tax.
In plain English: many working people pay Social Security tax on every dollar they earn. Higher earners stop paying Social Security tax after they reach the yearly limit.
At the same time, more people are retiring, people are living longer, and fewer workers are supporting each retiree than in the past. That moth doesn't fix itself.
IDEA 1
Raise or Remove the Income Limit
One option is to raise the amount of income that is taxed for Social Security. Another option is to remove the limit completely.
Right now, someone making $60,000 pays Social Security tax on all $60,000. Someone making $500,000 pays Social Security tax only on the first $184,500 in 2026
Why some people support it
It would bring more money into Social Security. It may also feel fairer to workers who already pay Social Security tax on all of their earnings.
The concern
It is still a tax increase on some earners and some business owners. If done to fast, it could create problems for employers and workers.
A Reasonable Path
Do not shock the system. A gradual change would be easier to understand and easier to manage. For example, the income limit could rise slowly, or new taxes could apply only above a higher level.
Carefully Review the Retirement Age
IDEA 2
Today, full retirement age is 67 for people born in 1960 or later. People can start Social Security earlier, at age 62, but the monthly amount is lower.
One idea is to slowly adjust the retirement age in the future because people, on average, are living longer than they used to.
Why some people support it
If people are living longer, Social Security may pay benefits for more years. A slow change could reduce pressure on the system over time.
The concern
This can hurt people who do hard physical work. Not everyone has a desk job. A warehouse worker, nurse aide, mechanic, construction worker, or a sanitation worker may not be able to keep working longer.
A Reasonable Path
Today, full retirement age is 67 for people born in 1960 or later. People can start Social Security earlier, at age 62, but the monthly amount is lower.
Workers in clearly defined physically demanding jobs — including work involving heavy lifting, repetitive strain, dangerous conditions, or long-term wear on the body — should be protected from retirement-age increases.
The details must be written clearly, with fair eligibility rules and strong protections against abuse. The goal is simple: keep Social Security financially stable without punishing the workers whose bodies helped build and serve this country.
We are developing a proposed 24-month roadmap for launching a mobile clinic initiative to expand access to preventive care, screenings, referrals, and health education. This roadmap shows the major steps required, including needs assessment, church and nonprofit partnerships, funding, vehicle procurement, licensing, insurance, staffing, and pilot operations. The timeline is preliminary and subject to funding, regulatory approvals, clinical partnerships, and community participation.
